Two teenagers drown in Marve

Had Noorjahan Banoo and Pallavi Patil, both 13 years old, could buy the tickets for a Hindi movie at Inorbit Mall on Sunday afternoon, both would have been alive today.

Noorjahan, Pallavi and three other friends went to the mall in Malad to watch the movie, the Hindi movie, Honeymoon Travels, but they did not get tickets. Disappointed, they decided to spend the day on Marve beach, where the two are feared drowned. Till late in the night, the bodies could not be fished out. “We did not get the tickets for the 3pm show. So we decided to go to the beach and have some fun,” said 11-year-old Ashok, a close friend. According to the police, the five went to the Marve beach and apparently ventured into deep sea.

“The teenagers told their parents that they were going for a movie, but instead went to the beach. When the friends had seen their friends   drowning, they informed some locals who then informed the police control room at around 4.15 pm,” said Makrand Ranade, DCP (zone IX). The Malwani police could not recover the girls' bodies till Sunday night.

“We have also taken help from the Navy and fire brigade who have been   searching for the bodies since 4.35 pm. We have also asked local fishermen to help fish out the bodies. Hence, the police have put them under the category of “presumed dead”, a police officer said. The police said the two girls did not know swimming and would have drowned because of the high tide.

“The three children were not in a position to even talk and so we do not have exact details about the incident, but we managed to get the addresses of the two girls who perished. The children are too shocked to talk. We will take their statement when they can talk properly,” the officer said.
