NEW DELHI: In his first remarks after arriving in India, Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri made all the right noises for peace between the neighbours. “I am here to give peace a chance. We should not let anything derail the process,” said Kasuri at Safdarjung hospital in the Capital.

The Pakistan foreign minister drove straight to the hospital from the airport even though his flight was delayed by almost two hours. He spent a lot of time with the patients and talked with their kin at the burns unit of the hospital. “It’s indeed sad to know that a young boy (Haris Mohammed) passed away this morning. Though the condition of another patient is critical, the other eight are improving, the doctor assured,” he said.

Kasuri also stressed that both India and Pakistan would continue dialogues on the peace process and categorically refused to comment on the possible involvement of any religious groups in the blasts. “It is very easy to find scapegoats. But Pakistan is doing a lot to curb terrorism and terrorists are already feeling the heat,” he said.

“We want to get to the bottom of the criminal activity and nail the culprits. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has assured the Pakistan government cooperation in jointly fighting the terror threat,” he added.

Kasuri said that both India and Pakistan should meet in Islamabad on March 6 for the composite dialogue process. Regarding the Pakistani patients in India, he said his government would make special arrangements to take them back.

“Obviously, this will be done on the advice of doctors.”

The Pakistan foreign minister is here for a four-day visit.
