NEW DELHI: In a move showing new bonhomie with estranged ally TRS, the Congress in Andhra Pradesh has left two seats to the regional party in the coming Legislative Council polls in the State.

In the list of 19 nominees announced by the AICC General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi on Sunday for the March 17 elections to the council from local bodies, the seats of Medak and Karimnagar have been left to the TRS candidates.

State Congress president K Keshav Rao announced the alliance between the two parties on Saturday night.

Rao had said the tie-up was clinched after he and Congress General Secretary, in-charge of AP, Digvijay Singh spoke to TRS chief  K Chandrasekhar Rao on the issue.

According to reports from Hyderabad, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi also wished Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday on his birthday.

TRS had pulled out of the ruling UPA last year alleging that the Congress lacked enthusiasm to pursue the separate Telangana statehood demand.

The names the party nominees announced are: T. Babji (Srikakulam), G. Rudraraju (East Godavari), Ganga Bhawani (West Godavari), I. Venkaiah (Krishna), Srinivas Rayapati (Guntur), Jai Chandra Naidu (Chitoor), Shivam Reddy (Anantpur), Srinivasulu (Kurnool), Jagadeeshwar Reddy (Mehboob Nagar), R. Venkatram Reddy (Nizamabad), Prem Sagar Rao (Adilabad), Venkatrama Reddy (Warangal), Mallu Batti (Khammam) and Goverdhan Reddy (Nalgonda).

The party, however, upheld announcement of names for Vijayanagaram, Vishakhapatnam, Chitoor and Kadapa seats.

Elections to the 90-member House will be held on March 17. Legislative Council has been revived in Andhra Pradesh after nearly 20 years which was abolished by the then N T Rama Rao government.
