MUMBAI: Balmohan Vidyamandir, in their maiden appearance in the final, scored a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over IES VN Sule Guruji High School to lift the Parle Super Cup under-17 inter-school cricket tournament at the Police Gymkhana on Friday.

Balmohan’s march towards title was boosted by impressive performances of left arm spinner Gaurav Jathar and top order batsmen Rahul Deochake, Parth Nikhil and Ravi Shinde.

Except for Shinde, it was the last match for others at Balmohan who are preparing for SSC exams. Shinde impressed with his stroke play, he aggregated 188 runs in four matches to clinch the best batsmen award. Come next year, he will be the lynchpin for Balmohan.

Replying to Sule’s total of 175, Balmohan lost opener Sumit Ghadigaonkar (18) with the score on 32 for 1. Parth Nikhil (56) and Ravi Shinde (38) shared a 72-run third wicket partnership to make sure VN Sule bowlers didn’t make any inroads further.

Shinde played some brilliant shots through covers, until he was caught by Rajiv Kamath off Shivprakash Jaiswal. Parth was out soon after, castled by Akash Dharankar. Skipper Deochake (38*) then shared an unbeaten 47-run stand with Jathar (18) to steer his side home.

Earlier, VN Sule were sitting pretty at 100 for 2 in 25 overs with Rajiv Kamath (26) and Akash Parkar (29) at the crease. But Kamath holed out to Kaustubh Kolambkar at short cover off Ashutosh Ghagre which triggered a collapse. The spin trio of Jathar (3 for 23), Ashutosh Ghagre (2 for 26) and Kolambkar (2 for 39) didn’t allow the rest of the batsmen to cut loose.
