NANJING (CHINA): Global consulting and information technology giant Satyam Computer Services on Thursday announced plans to set up its largest software development facility in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu province.

The 2,500-seat state-of-the-art global delivery campus will include development areas, training centres, convention centre and recreational facilities, CEO of Satyam Computers Rama Raju told a press conference here.

"Satyam's largest development facility in China demonstrates its commitment to the country," Raju said soon after the ground-breaking ceremony for the campus at the Nanjing Software Park.

"We are very pleased to be able to establish this facility in Nanjing, which will play an important role in our Global Delivery Model," Raju, also co-founder of the Hyderabad-based company said.

Satyam has been one of the earliest entrants in the Chinese market, realising its potential as an emerging nearshore hub for the company's Asian customers and the rich pool of technical talent that the country offers.

The first development centre of Satyam was set-up in Shanghai in 2002 with staff strength of 10, which was further ramped-up to the present strength of over 400 associates.

With a growth plan of increasing headcount to 3000 associates and setting up of more nearshore centres, Satyam will soon have the biggest footprint in the region, compared to its peers, company sources said.
