UJJAIN: A witness in the HS Sabharwal murder case turned hostile in a court here on Tuesday, a day after two prosecution witnesses backtracked from their statements given to police regarding the death of the college teacher.

District and Session Judge Anil Kumar Sharma declared BJP leader Sanwar Patel hostile in the case and recorded the statement of Madhav College librarian Govind Singh Kushwaha.

Patel said he had never made any statement to the police that he had seen anybody manhandling Sabharwal.

He claimed before the reporters that he was only called by the State CID probing the case to enquire about his background and added that he has told the court the same thing on Tuesday.

Kushwaha told the court that on hearing the call from Komal Singh, a staff of the college and others he rushed towards Sabharwal and took him to the hospital.

He claimed that Sabharwal died after an attempt to save him by the doctors proved futile.

Three witnesses, including Komal Singh and Manohar Singh Dodia, staffers of the college, have turned hostile in the case.

Sabhrwal died on August 26 last year when he was allegedly mobbed by ABVP activists after the cancellation of Madhav College students union eletions.

The court will record the statement of four more witnesses, including two policemen on Wednesday.
