It was a normal evening at the Tiwaris’ third floor home in Kashimira on Wednesday. Their youngest child, six-year-old Avinash was playing in the front room of the flat.

However, at around 8.30pm, things changed. Unknown people kidnapped Avinash.

The family was unaware of this till Avinash’s uncle Suresh Tiwari, who stays in an adjacent building, got an anonymous call saying that Avinash had been kidnapped and the family should arrange for a ransom of Rs10 lakh.

Achaldev Tiwari, Avinash’s father, and other family members launched a frantic search for the boy. When they couldn’t find him they lodged a complaint with the Kashimira police. A manhunt has been launched by the cops.

The kidnappers called at around 11am on Thursday. And the news that was delivered was disturbing.

The caller told Tiwari that he had made a big mistake by informing the police about the abduction.

“The kidnapper said the family will have to pay for informing the cops that their son had been kidnapped and told them that he had been killed and that his body had been dumped near a nallah between the Mira Road railway station and Bhayander bridge,” said a cop from Kashimira police station.

The police rushed to the spot and recovered Avinash’s body from the nallah.

Bewildered, the police tried to find out how the kidnapper came to know that the family had informed the police.

When the phone calls were traced, the police discovered that the first call, which was made to inform the family about the kidnapping, was made from a telephone booth right across from the police station and the other call was made from a nearby telephone booth.

The police are also enquiring as to how could the kidnappers enter the Tiwari residence without raising an alarm.

Avinash’s post-mortem revealed that he had been drowned. “We want to ensure the exact reason of death, the first post-mortem was not satisfactory and we have done a second post mortem.

Those reports are yet to come,” said senior police inspector Rajan Ghule of the Kashmira police station. Avinash’s body was handed over to the family on Friday.

Avinash’s father, Achaldev, runs has a food processing business. He and his family live in ‘K’ wing of Saikripa complex at Kashimira. The Tiwaris have f four children. Avinash was the youngest.
