AHMEDABAD: Four people were killed and 19 were injured when a fire broke out in a pipeline of Essar's Vadinar oil terminal near its refinery in Jamnagar district early on Thursday.

The fire broke out in the pig-launching station at Vadinar.

The fire has been doused and has not affected the refinery's functioning.

Essar Oil managing director AN Sinha said the pipeline would be fixed by February 4, when a new cargo for export was expected to arrive.

Refinery operations and dispatches would not be affected by the fire.

“We had taken a routine shutdown of the pipeline for some minor modifications and cleaning. In the process, it seems some leakage has happened,” Sinha said.

The refinery had been running at a rate of 150,000 barrels a day.
