Hindi writer Kamleshwar dead

Hindi writer Kamleshwar died here on Sunday. He was born on January 6, 1932 in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh.

NEW DELHI: Hindi writer Kamleshwar died here on Saturday. He was 74 and is survived by his wife and a daughter. His body will be cremated on Sunday.
 
A long-time heart patient, Kamleshwar's condition deteriorated at his residence at night, his family said. He breathed his last while being taken to hospital.
 
He was born in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh. He did his Master’s in Hindi from Allahabad University in 1954 and soon after worked as a scriptwriter for Doordarshan.
 
He wrote scripts for television serials like Darpan, Ek Kahani, Chandrakanta and Yug, apart from producing and directing TV programmes and documentaries.
 
He was a scriptwriter in films like Sara Aakash, Aandhi, Mausam, Rajanigandha, Choti Si Baat and Mr Natwarlal.
 
His works depict the trials and tribulations of a fast changing society, groping for new values in the face of the collapse of the old value system.
 
The characters in Kamleshwar's works are ordinary middle class people.
 
The Sahitya Akademi once remarked that "his utter self-restraint in experimentation with technique and form lends a forceful character to his treatment."
 
He was additional director general, Doordarshan, editor, Dainik Jagaran, a Hindi daily and editor, Dainik Bhaskar, a Hindi daily.
