MUMBAI: Getting off the starting gates rather late and falling behind till the last 200 metres, Holding Court, from the yard of S Padmanabhan, proved that the derby distance in the Prince Pradeep Trophy was all his, in the 19th Mumbai meeting at the Mahalaxmi Race Course here on Thursday.
In the race which saw five contenders taking the starting gates, Holding Court was placed last as the race settled for the day’s feature. Star of Windsor was the initial leader followed by Aspinalls and Magic Touch. Star of Windsor maintained the lead as they passed the 1200m marker.
Holding Court made amends and was striding in the third place behind Star of Windsor and Magic Touch. The latter lost control of the race and stopped galloping. Holding Court took the opportunity and had the early leader Star of Windsor and Crown Court in tight corners. It was just in the 200m marker, Holding Court who was on tight reign raced home effortlessly leaving Crown Court five lengths behind. And rider YS Srinath completed the day with a fine double.
While all the four horses had crossed the winning post, Magic Touch was at the 600m. Later, rider C Rajendra reported that he felt his mount was uncomfortable and he had to pull the horse out. Later, the doctors who examined Magic Touch said there was nothing wrong with the horse.
In the Bahrain Trophy, the other main supporting event of the day, Enceladus galloped away with the trophy piloted by YS Srinath.
