Bandra postman held in fake passport racket

The Crime Branch on Friday arrested Naresh Vasant Sevekar, 33, postman of Bandra post office for delivering a fake Indian passports of a Pakistani woman and her son to a Bandra-based passport agent.

MUMBAI: The Crime Branch on Friday arrested Naresh Vasant Sevekar, 33, postman of Bandra post office for delivering a fake Indian passports of a Pakistani woman and her son to a Bandra-based passport agent.
 
Sevekar was booked under Sections of Indian Passport Act and Sections 420 (cheating) and 202 (Intentional omission to give information of offence by person bound to inform) of the Indian Penal Code. He has been remanded to police custody till January 29.
 
Crime branch sources said that Sevekar, who has been serving in the Indian Postal & Telegraph Department for the past 13 years, stays at Temkar Pada in Mira Road with his wife and two children.
 
According to the directives of Foreign Ministry and Postal Department, the passport should be delivered to the concerned passport holder only. However, Sevekar did not take the pains to find whether the passport holder’s address was genuine or fake. He delivered the passport to Ashok Solanki who works for DS & Sons Travels, a travel agency at Bandra.
 
Sevekar is the sixth person to be arrested in the fake Indian passport racket. The Crime Branch had earlier arrested five persons — Pakistani national, Yasmin Aziz Maknojia, 38, Alluddhin Kadiwala (Yasmin’s relative), Rajubhai alias Siraz Dawood Kotadiya, Proprietor of DS & Sons Travels at Bandra, Ashok Solanki, employee of Rajubhai alias Kotadiya and Pradeep Shelar, clerk in Regional Passport Office, Mumbai.
 
Yasmin was handed a two month simple imprisonment sentence for possession of an Indian passport in a false name, by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court in December 2006.
