Another senior citizen seems to have become a victim for robbers. Olio Miranda, 84, was found dead in her bungalow in Chimbai village, Bandra, strangled by a mosquito net and a sweater.

“This incident took place between midnight and early morning. The milkman left the milk in the morning and went away. The maid servant arrived at 10.30am. When no one answered the door, she realised something was amiss,” said police inspector Deepak Kathkade. “The maid then went to Miranda’s son’s house who lives in the next building to find out if she was there. The family came back to Miranda’s house and broke open the door to find her dead.”

Miranda was ill and suffering from kidney ailments. Her son was bedridden as he had recently met with an accident and suffered a fracture. Her husband died over 50 years ago, since when Miranda had been living lived alone. “We think three or four people committed the robbery. Miranda had three people helping her: one girl who took care of her breakfast, one girl was a sweeper, one maid took care of her lunch and dinner. She also had a tenant called Ismail. The watchman is also being questioned,” said the inspector.

Helen Miranda, Olio’s daughter in law, said, “We are well-to-do and have never had any property dispute. This is a robbery and the police are investigating the matter.” Miranda also has a daughter, Carol D’Silva, who lives in London.
