Girl sets herself alight, tries to commit suicide

MUMBAI: A sixteen-year-old handicapped girl, allegedly burnt herself at a residential complex in Meera Road area on Friday, said police sources.

In a statement to the police, Rekha Solanki, resident of Chandan Park in Meera Road, said that she set herself afire.
However, the reason for the act was not yet known. She suffered severe injuries and has been admitted to a local hospital, they said.

There were unconfirmed reports that the girl has been set afire by a jilted lover, but the police refused to say anything further in this regard.
