MUMBAI: Same tournament, a different place, Len Aiyappa is gunning for the award as the top scorer of PHL.

Winner of the award in the last two editions, Len Aiyappa of the Bangalore Lions is all geared up for the championship.

But for the hitch with the curve of the stick being more, there is nothing that bothers Aiyappa who does not want to make a comeback into the Indian side just for a tournament. “ I would rather play for my team Air India rather than play one international and get rested."

The large curve in the hockey sticks — as per the new change — has forced the once drag flicking specialists, Len to do some over time in the field to get his hold in the technique.

According to Len, the curve has forced him to cross the ball and then drag flick.
“I was used to the smaller curve but now I have get used to the new stick. I will have to hold on to the ball, cross over it and execute the drag flick,” said Len.

He is not sure about the usefulness of the foreign players in this league. “It will take some time for these foreigners to settle in India. But the Pakistan players will do well.
“But I’m confident I can win the golden stick award for the third time in a row.”
