Munde injured in road accident

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Gopinath Munde was on Saturday seriously injured in an accident near Parli in Marathwada, about 600 km from here.

MUMBAI: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Gopinath Munde was on Saturday seriously injured in an accident near Parli in Marathwada, about 600 km from here.

The former deputy chief minister has been admitted to a local hospital and efforts are on to shift him either to Aurangabad or Latur and then to be flown to Mumbai for emergency treatment, sources said.

The accident took place near a petrol pump, between Parli and Tokewadi village, at around 5 pm, a local BJP leader said over the telephone.

A boy, who came in the way of the vehicle carrying Munde, was injured, the sources said.

"We have been informed that Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, a close friend of Munde, has requisitioned a state government aircraft to fly Munde from Latur. The other option is to take him to Aurangabad, from where he will be flown to Mumbai, by a private flight if need be, to Mumbai,” the BJP leader said.
