Tuesday’s rains brought with it both good news and bad news for the Capital. While the weather is perfect and chilly, there is also a possibility of dense fog, said Delhi Met officials on Tuesday.

“Delhi has been witnessing moderate cold weather but temperatures will fall further after Friday. The mercury, which is hovering around 7 degrees Celsius, will go down the 6 degrees mark,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“Since there was rain on Tuesday, there might not be heavy fog on Wednesday, but Thursday will probably be very bad,” said RC Bhatia, the Director General of the Indian Meteorological department. Tuesday recorded a minimum temperature of 7.3 degrees Celsius. On Monday, the city had recorded a maximum of 22.3 degrees and a minimum of 6.9 degrees.

Air passengers will be the worst-hit as an increase in fog will spell delays in flight take-offs. Airport authorities say that they are prepared to face the fog.

Individual airlines like Sahara and Jet Airways say that they have an alternative flight plan ready.

“Even though we do get a rough idea from the meteorological department about fog, there is no precision about the timing of the fog. It all depends on the visibility, thereby decisions cannot be taken in advance. However, we will make sure that all our passengers are made aware of any delays and cancellations way before their flights are scheduled to take off,” informed the spokesperson of Sahara Airlines, a private carrier.

On Tuesday, though the visibility levels remained normal, weathermen said about 600m visibility was recorded at 7 am, which is considered normal.

“All flights were flying on time. But the fog may return soon,” said a spokesperson of the Delhi International Airport Ltd.
