THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Railway passengers had a harrowing time on Saturday with the computerised ticketing system of the Southern Railways going haywire since morning in all important stations in Kerala, including the capital.

A number of passengers had to cancel their journey for the day on account of the defect in the ticketing system, which slowed down due to a technical snag at the BSNL operating station in Chennai.

After the morning chaos and confusion, the authorities began issuing manual tickets, which also failed to clear the rush. Long queues were seen in front of ticket counters at Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram.

Official sources said the BSNL authorities had informed them that the cable problem which caused the fiasco would be solved by Saturday night.

TTEs had been instructed to issue tickets without taking fine till the problem was over, the sources said.
