Cops search for bouncers

Following the alleged beating up of five youngsters by bouncers at a pub in Lower Parel on Saturday, the NM Joshi Marg police are on the lookout for the bouncers involved. On Tuesday, the police paraded some bouncers before the five, but according to the police, they failed to identify the bouncers. The youngsters had gone partying to Aziano, a pub at Phoenix mills in Lower Parel, on Saturday afternoon. Later, the group went to KEM Hospital and then approached the police to register an FIR on Saturday.

“We brought in the bouncers from the pub for the boys to identify them on Tuesday. They failed to do so. We will bring in another batch later,” said Senior Police Inspector Narsing Sherkhane of NM Joshi Marg police station. He added that Raymond Irani, the manager, was arrested but subsequently released on bail, The assaulters would soon be arrested, Sherkhane said. While Gautam Shetty suffered injuries on his head, hands and neck, the others — Rohit Parikh, Gaurav Shetty, Gaurav Solanki and Sachin Manjrekar — have injuries on their hands, legs and back. According to his statement to the police, Gautam Shetty said he had stepped out of the pub as he got a call from his mother. Suddenly, one of the bouncers pushed him and demanded that he go inside, and started hitting him. When he got inside, he saw his brother being assaulted by some other bouncers, as per the statement.

With increasing cases of bouncers seemingly taking law into their hands, the Mumbai police have decided to make a database of all bouncers in Mumbai. “Police stations will be instructed to collect information of all bouncers in their area: who they are, where they have come from, if they have any criminal records, all these details will be gathered,” a police officer told DNA.
