Thomas Cook chief quits

FRANKFURT: Thomas Holtrop has quit as head of Germany's second-biggest travel and tourism group Thomas Cook following a row with other board members, a report said on Tuesday.  

The company's supervisory board voted to terminate his contract at a stormy meeting on Monday, after differences of opinion had led to a falling out between the 52-year-old and the five other management board members, the Financial Times Deutschland reported.   

Holtrop, who reportedly stormed out of the company on Monday afternoon, has been criticised for his high-handed and un-sensitive management style since he took over a year ago, the paper quoted company sources as saying.   

The formal termination of Holtrop's contract had yet to be announced, it added.  

He was likely to be succeeded by British board member Manny Fontenla-Novoa, currently responsible for the group's activities in Britain and Ireland, the FT Deutschland said.
