TORONTO: Aiming to boost economic ties with India, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty will lead a delegation of 75 Canadian companies on a major trade mission to India. The Premier’s seven-day visit to India in January aims to target new markets in infrastructure, information and communications, life sciences, financial services, education and cultural industry.

“The Ontario government sees the development of economic relations between Canada and India as very important. We want to strengthen our relationship and seize the limitless business opportunities with India,” McGuinty said at a reception of the Ontario-India mission.

“India is one of the world’s fastest growing economies with a middle class consumer base of 300 million. And that number is rising rapidly. India is looking to markets like Ontario for strong innovative expertise that will help them to modernise their economies, and Ontario’s expertise, products and services make a nature fit for India’s powerhouse economy.”

“Ontario government is going to keep aggressively pursuing investment and high value jobs with the world’s fastest growing economies. India offers Canadian companies the potential to increase direct exports and to benefit from the creation of mutually beneficial strategic alliances and partnerships,” he said.

“There is scope for deepening economic links with India and for enhanced co-operation in the field of Infrastructure, information and communications, life sciences, financial services, education and cultural industry,” McGuinty said.

Commending India’s economic progress, David M Malone, Canadian High Commissioner for India, said that if the Canadian companies have right matching partner and sound legal advisors and patience, they were bound to achieve success.
