DOHA: India's Varghese Johnson had to be content with a bronze medal in the boxing event of the Asian Games after he lost to his Kazakhstan opponent in the semi-final of the men's super heavy weight +91 kg category on Monday.

Johnson, the lone Indian boxer on show on the last day of competition, was trailing against Mukhtarkhan Dildabekov when he decided to retire in the fourth round.

The two losing semi-finalists are awarded bronze medals.

"I need to practice hard, I need more training. I punched him but most of the times I could not connect. I have stamina and speed problems," Jonhson said.

"I did not have a good day today. Punches were lacking, speed was lacking and my body was getting tight. In the second round, I was okay but suddenly I got very tight", he added.

Jonhson was the second bronze medal winning among Indian boxer after Jitendra who claimed that honour in the men's 75 kg category. He had lost to Kazakhstan's Bakhtiyar Artayev 24-29 in the semi-finals.
