Dalmiya moves court to stall BCCI's SGM

KOLKATA: Former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya on Monday challenged before a city court the Board's notice to hold a special general meeting at Jaipur on Saturday to decide the action to be taken against him for alleged financial irregularities.

Dalmiya sought a stay on holding of the special general meeting, which is likely to take a decision on Dalmiya over allegations of financial misappropriation in connection with the 1996 World Cup accounts.

Dalmiya filed the suit in the City Civil Court here and served notice to BCCI, S K Bajoria, the board's counsel, said.

The former BCCI chief challenged the legality of the disciplinary committee and also the convening of a special general meeting.

Dalmiya, who is the president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), had earlier abstained from the three-member disciplinary committee meeting on October 29 questioning the neutrality of its chairman and board president Sharad Pawar and also claiming that the validity of the adjudication process against him had expired.

The former BCCI chief had been asked to appear before the committee at Mohali for alleged misappropriation of the funds of PILCOM, which was responsible for hosting 1996 World Cup.

Dalmiya has also claimed that as per board's rules and regulations, any disciplinary issue should be resolved within six months and since the process against him had commenced on February 27 this year, it was no longer valid.
