22 school kids hurt in transformer blast

Twentytwo children received serious burn injuries on Monday after a power transformer on the boundary of a government primary school exploded in Udham Singh Nagar district here.

DEHRADUN: Twentytwo children received serious burn injuries on Monday after a power transformer on the boundary of a government primary school exploded in Udham Singh Nagar district here.
 
The high power transformer exploded while the children were leaving for home, in Kashipur, GK Dwivedi, Udham Singh Nagar district magistrate said.
   
While most children received burn injuries some of them were injured in the ensuing stampede, Dwivedi said.
 
Six seriously injured children were taken to the Shushila Tiwari hospital in Haldwani and the remaining were admitted to the Kashipur Government Hospital, he said, adding that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
 
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the transformer was repaired two days ago.
