NEW DELHI: In yet another manifestation of a tug-of-war, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences administration loyal to Director P Venugopal transferred the institute's registrar to a rural center. But the order was rescinded within 24 hours by Health Minister A Ramadoss, opposed to Venugopal's continuance.

The order to transfer V P Gupta to Ballabhgarh rural health centre on Saturday prompted the official to petition Ramadoss.

The transfer came after a preliminary fact-finding committee was set-up by the AIIMS vigilance cell following allegations that he was under-qualified and misusing his post, a charge denied by him.

He had petitioned Ramadoss about the 'unjust' transfer orders, after which the minister issued the directive to retain him, AIIMS sources said.

Venugopal had told Gupta to relinquish his duties in July over orders the latter passed on the release of salary to medicos during the anti-reservation strike in May.

Gupta was reinstated after the Union Health Ministry intervened, saying he could be sacked only with the AIIMS governing body's approval.
