Thanks to Lawrence D’Souza of Hindi blockbuster ‘Sajan’ and producer S Kumar, that Hindi cinema is finally making a come back to the picturesque tourist destination for the shooting of musical love story, ‘Jannat’ or ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’.

Breaking the long dry spell, Bollywood big guns led by Kumar, D’Souza, musical genius Shravan and actor Himant Berje have arrived here to finalize preparations for the shooting scheduled to begin sometime in January. The film is piped for release in August next year.

“I have been a regularly visiting this place and I find it completely safe. Shravan Ji had some concerns, so we decided to come here to see the picturesque place. Now we have decided to shoot the film here. It will mark the beginning of Bollywood’s renewed foray in Kashmir,” Kumar who is co-producing the film with Shravan Rathore told DNA.

Producers have selected two titles – ‘Jannat’ and ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’ – to choose from for the film. “We are banking on these two titles. It depends which one will be selected. Rest assured, it will be one of the two titles,” Shravan told DNA.

A musical love triangle, the film is based on a romantic story written by Rajiv Kaul of ‘Beta’. The film revolves around three persons of Kashmir who are in love. “Jannat is a character played by the heroine of the film. There are two male protagonists. It is not a propaganda film, but a pure romantic one where Kashmir’s ambience plays a major role,” said Kumar.

Sanjeev Dharshan is the musical director of the film and the lyrics have been written by Sameer.

“We are planning to take Soha Ali Khan or Sneha Ulal, who can play the role of a Kashmiri girl. Among the male characters, we are considering Kunal Kumar, who have featured in the famous blockbuster Rang De Basanti. We are also considering Muzamil, a successful Kashmiri model, in our film,” Shravan said.

Around 90 per cent of the film will be shot in Jammu & Kashmir.

“We will shoot the film in two schedules. Winter sequences will be shot in January and spring will be shot in March. We plan to do it in Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Dal Lake,” Kumar said.

The producers have roped in several Kashmiri artistes for the film. “Some characters have to be played by Kashmiris and we have zeroed in on some artistes. After this, the producers are planning to shoot ‘Return of Tarzana’ in Kashmir starring Himant Berje and Malika Sherawat.
