Suspected Pak national detained in Chennai

CHENNAI: A 48-year old man has been detained on suspicion that he was a Pakistani national after he arrived here from Frankfurt by a Lufthansa flight, airport and police sources said on Tuesday.

Syed Akthar gave contradictory statements while being questioned on his arrival late Monday night and officials suspected that he was a Pakistani national, the sources said.

He held a genuine German passport and on being questioned about the purpose of his visit, Akthar claimed that he was here to attend a "conference", they said.

After questioning him for several hours, immigration officials brought the matter to the notice of concerned authorities in New Delhi and were awaiting further orders, the sources added.
