Tibetan girl to participate in Miss Earth contest

SHIMLA: Tsering Chungtak, a Tibetan and a student of Delhi University, will participate in the Miss Earth international beauty pageant being held in Manila.

The Tibetan people in Dharamsala are a happy lot after hearing the news that she will participate in the global event as Miss Tibet. They consider it as recognition of Tibet at an international forum which would help in projecting their cause, said organisers of the Miss Tibet contest.

Chungtak earlier participated in the Miss Tibet Pageant of 2006 held in Dharamsala recently and won the crown.

Lobsang Wangyal, one of the organisers of the Miss Tibet contest who went to Manila along with Chungtak, confirmed her participation in the international pageant.

The organisers of the Miss Tibet contest said since Chungtak has been entered as a contestant from Tibet, it would be a cause of celebration for the Tibetan community across the world.
