Dressed in black and white formals, members of Orchestra Del Teatro Regio Di Parma from Italy, dazzled the Capital city on Saturday evening with their flawless rendition of classical compositions from Vedi and Belini.

Marco Boni, principal conductor of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw chamber orchestra, brought the best out of his 52-member team, adding to the spectacular backdrop of the Purana Qila.

Accompanied by Daniela Bruera who provided the soprano and Luca Canonici who provided the tenor, the orchestra enthralled the audience for an hour, delineating scenes from Rome in the early 19th century, of a female protagonist who is reading a novel about love and other inspiring stories.

“It is a great opportunity for us to come and perform here in India. To have been given the chance to perform at the Purana Qila is a great honour. Although traditionally operas are performed indoors, this is a unique idea,” Boni told DNA.

“The Indian experience has been warm and encouraging. This is also a great attempt at spreading awareness about western classical music. We have brought some old arias for the Indin audience — there is some romance, some humour and some sadness,” said Boni, who is visitng India for the second time.

Marco Meli, the team manager, described the Indian experience as an initiative that will take the Indo-Italian friendship to a new level. “What India has done for Asia, Italy is doing for Europe. Both the countries have a rich history and the common platform of interest in culture and heritage. Initiatives likes this help improve the rapport between them. This time, we wanted to present the very best to India and hence this special effort to bring in our superlative performers.”
