Vakola girl rescued 19 days after being snatched by father’s former employee
Nineteen days after six-year-old Muskan Ansari was kidnapped from her Vakola residence in Santa Cruz by her father’s former employee Azhar Mohammad Mobin Ali (32), a five-man police team from Mumbai reunited her with her parents.
According to police inspector (crime) Lalsingh Pawar, attached to the Vakola police station: “The girl went missing on October 22 while playing outside her residence, prompting her parents to lodge a complaint with the police. On October 24, Ali called up the Ansari residence and demanded a ransom of Rs2 lakh from Muskan’s parents.”
A case of kidnapping was registered against Ali who had for four months worked as an air conditioner serviceman at Ansari’s shop.
He was an acquaintance of Muskan’s uncle and was seeking employment in the Gulf for some time.
Pawar said that a five-member team of police officials was immediately despatched to Gazipur village in UP, Ali’s hometown. The police reached his residence where his parents and two brothers pleaded ignorance about his whereabouts. They, however, confirmed that he had arrived at their village a few days with a little girl.
When informed about the kidnapping, his parents contacted Ali and asked him to return the child. Ali abandoned Muskan at a nearby village where she was found and taken to a nearby police station. A message was relayed to the superintendent’s office about the girl. The police team from Mumbai secured the custody of the child and escorted her back to Mumbai.
An emotional Ansari said: “I cannot believe Ali could do this. In fact, I was his benefactor, helping him to secure a job in Gulf for which an agent had already been paid money. His visa was being processed, when Ali told me he wanted to go to his village in UP for Eid. I even gave him Rs5,000 for the purpose. Little did I suspect that he would kidnap my child.”
A manhunt has been launched for Ali.
