MUMBAI: Late selling by funds in heavyweight stocks reversed an early rising trend on Tuesday with the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark, Sensex, falling by over 30 points.
The 30-share sensitive index, Sensex, which surged to hit an intra-day new high of 13,300.69 on the back of sustained buying activity, succumbed to profit-taking towards the close of the session and ended 30.23 points down at 13,156.66.
In likewise manners, the wide-based National Stock Exchange's index Nifty fell by 10.50 points at 3,798.75 after moving between 3840.45 and 3789.40 points.
The major weak spots, which dragged down the Sensex were Bajaj Auto, Reliance Industries, Tata Steel, BHEL, Larsen and Toubro, Grasim Industries, ACC and Maruti Udyog.
