JAMMU: Four members, including three women, of a family were killed by Hizbul Mujahideen militants in Udhampur on Sunday after their refusal to marry off two daughters to the ultras.

Father, mother and two daughters were killed early this morning in Dalwa village after they turned down a marriage proposal of Hizb militants, Senior Superintendent of Police (Udhampur) Ramban Basant Kumar Rath said.

The two militants last night went to the house of one Ahad Bhat and asked him to marry off his two daughters to them but the father refused to do so, Rath said.

The duo who left the house returned in the wee hours today with a group of militants and showered bullets on the family killing four of them.

Those murdered were Bhat, his wife Fatima and daughters Shahida and Mubeen. The ultras escaped from the scene soon after the killings. A massive combing operation is on to track  down the militants responsible for the act, Rath said.
