BANGALORE: The police are probing the links of the two suspected militants arrested in Mysore with terror groups in Jammu and Kashmir, even as doubts emerged on whether the arrests made after the Thursday night shootout was stage managed.

The Karnataka police took help from its counterpart in Kerala on Saturday to search the home of the first wife and family of suspected Pakistani terrorist Fahad Hai’s father in Kozhikode.

Fahad’s father Abdullah Koya had migrated to Pakistan in 1971, but his first wife and her children still stay here. Fahad was born to Koya’s second wife. “A separate team is going to Jammu and Kashmir to find links of the two militants,” Mysore police Commissioner Praveen Sood said.

He said Fahad, who is proficient in English, Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam, was heading a sleeper cell that planned surprise attacks on potential targets in South India. Fahad, a Pakistani national who had come to India on a tourist visa, is an expert in making explosives.

Locals claim that the police took both Fahad and Mohammed Ali Hussain to custody two weeks ago, which has been disputed by the police.  “The police picked up Fahad 15 days ago. Since then neither he or nor any of his friends have visited their home,” Kanthamma, an elderly woman at the Rajiv Nagar residence of the duo, said. The suspected militants were apparently running a fancy store nearby. “The media is free to write anything,” Sood said. Police are investigating how the duo was able to get ration cards, driving license and a bank account in Mysore with fake certificates saying they were Indian nationals.

“The duo will be subjected to narco-analysis and brain mapping at the Bangalore forensic lab to collect evidence on their mission, background, local contacts and operational plan,” Sood said.
