THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Banking operations all over the country are likely to be affected on October 27 due to a one-day strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions to highlight the "threat" faced by social banking practices.

According to a UFBU release on Wednesday, the strike was called as part of the ongoing struggle to protect social banking practices and social security schemes, "under threat now due to the Centre's policies."

An umbrella forum of nine leading banking sector unions, UFBU also wanted the policy of outsourcing basic banking services to be given up, withdrawal of merger plans, universalisation of pension scheme and compassionate appointments and protection of trade union rights.
