Police get 45 more days to file 11/7chargesheet

Allowing Mumbai Police 45 more days to file a chargesheet in the July 11 train bombings, a special court on Friday extended till November 3 the judicial custody of seven accused held under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.

MUMBAI: Allowing Mumbai Police 45 more days to file a chargesheet in the July 11 train bombings, a special court on Friday extended till November 3 the judicial custody of seven accused held under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
 
The prosecution sought 45 more days to file a chargesheet, saying investigations were underway, a plea accepted by designated judge Mrudula Bhatkar.
 
The seven accused produced before court were Faizal Shaikh, Muzammil Shaikh, Tanvir Ahmed Ansari, Mohammed Kamal Ansari, Ethesham Siddiqui, Sohail Shaikh and Zamir Ahmed Ansari.
 
They had retracted their confessions during their remand on October 9, saying their statements were taken on blank papers and also they were not produced before a magistrate or deputy commissioner of police for recording confessions as required under the rules.
 
Another group of six accused are in police custody till October 26. They are Naved Hussain, Mohammed Majid Ahmed Sheikh, Shiekh Mohammmed Ali Alam, Mohammed Shajid Markhat Anzari, Abdul Wahid, and Asif khan Bashir Khan alias Junaid.
 
Nearly 200 people were killed and several hundreds injured when seven blasts ripped through commuter trains during rush hour here on July 11.
 
The police have claimed the blasts were planned by Pakistan's ISI and executed by Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Students Islamic Movement of India, both proscribed in India.
