MOSCOW: Unseeded Anna Chakvetadze upset fifth seed Nadia Petrova 6-4 6-4 in the all-Russian Kremlin Cup final on Sunday to win her second title in a month.

The 19-year-old Muscovite, who earned her maiden WTA title in Guangzhou, China two weeks ago, outplayed the more experienced Petrova thanks to an excellent all-round game and greater court coverage.

Chakvetadze clinched the biggest victory of her career on her first match point when Petrova netted a forehand to end the contest after one and a half hours.

World number five Petrova, who was chasing her sixth title of the year, was playing with both thighs heavily strapped and was also nursing a chest injury.

Chakvetadze reached the last four without hitting a ball after US Open champion and second seed Maria Sharapova pulled out with a foot injury on Friday.

Top seed Nikolay Davydenko faces his Davis Cup team mate Marat Safin in another all-Russian final for the men's title later on Sunday.
