Kibiwott, Chepkirui win Delhi Half Marathon

Francis Kibiwott of Kenya won the Delhi Half Marathon with a timing of one hour and 40 seconds.

NEW DELHI: Kenya's Francis Kibiwott and Lineth Chepkirui won the men's and women's section respectively in the Delhi Hutch Half Marathon here on Sunday.
 
Kibiwott covered the distance of 21.097 kms in one hour, one minute and 36 seconds to create a new course record, bettering Philip Rugut's last year's mark by 18 seconds.
 
Cuthbert Nyasngo (1:02:30 secs) of Zimbabwe took the second place while John J Korir (1:03:16) of Kenya, came third.
 
Chepkirui claimed the honours with a timing of 1:10:40 secs, being fastest among the women. Erkesso Teriba (1:11:22) of Ethiopia and Dire Tune (1:11:35) of Kenya clinched the second and third places respectively.
 
Both the defending champion in men's and women’s section -- Philip Rugut (1:03:33 secs) and Irina Timofeyeva (1:12:11 sec) of Russia -- came fourth.
 
Ram Singh Yadav was the first Indian runner to cross the finish line at overall 18th place, clocking 1:06:52 to set a course record.
 
In the Indian women's section, Pampa Chanda topped with the timings of 1:21:47 secs, also establishing a course record.

 
The run, flagged off on Sunday at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, attracted 40 of the world's top 100 long distance runners.
 
It's the world's richest half marathon and carries total prize money of $1,50,000.
