UJJAIN: Less than two months after the murder of local college professor H S Sabharwal during college students' union poll here, Madhya Pradesh police on Friday filed a chargesheet in a court here raising charges against six ABVP
members, including two of its former key functionaries, for the incident.

Former ABVP state president Shashiranjan Singh Akela, former secretary Vimal Tomar and ABVP workers Panka Mishra, Hemant Dube, Vishal Rajoria and Sudhir Yadav were charged with murder and rioting, a senior CID official said.

The 233-page chargesheet was filed in the court of Judicial Magistrate R S Madia. "The challan (document) was presented in the court after getting enough evidence to prove their direct involvement in the murder of Professor Sabharwal after the cancellation of college union polls in Ujjain's Madhav College on August 26," the officer said.

Along with the chargesheet, the CID presented eight CDs 98 witnesses, including key eyewitness peon Komal Singh, the scooter on which Sabharwal was going home when he was attacked and the post mortem report.

"Since the probe is on, we may file supplementary chargesheet if we find some more evidence", the CID officer said. The CID questioned 93 people, including some eyewitnesses, before charging the ABVP members under Sections 302 (murder) and 147 (rioting) of the IPC, he said.

The court has fixed October 26 as the next date of hearing in the case, he said.
