2nd Indian found dead in cargo ship mishap

TOKYO: An Indian sailor, washed overboard after a freighter with 25 Indians in its crew ran aground off Japan's Ibaraki Prefecture, was found dead on Sunday, taking the toll to two.
 
Rescue teams are searching for eight others missing in the mishap.
 
The body of Thomas William, an Indian crew of the Giant Step that caught fire and ran aground after being caught in stormy weather on Friday, was found on a beach in Kamisu, the Kyodo news agency reported.
 
The ship had 25 Indians and a Pakistani in its crew, out of which 17 were rescued. But a 34-year-old Indian man succumbed to injuries in the hospital on Saturday.
 
Japan Coast guard aircraft and patrol ships resumed searching for the eight missing crew on Sunday.
 
Before running aground, the 98,587-ton freighter, which was heading to Kashima port from Australia with 190,000 tons of iron ore, reported a fire in the cabin.
 
The cargo ship was stranded about two kilometers off Kashima port, 95 kilometers east of Tokyo.
 
Eastern Japan was hit by stormy weather on Friday due to tropical storms Babinca and Rumbia in the Pacific Ocean.
