Ramani is the best bet, says HC

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday pulled up the prosecution for browbeating its star witness Bina Ramani around whom the entire case was built.

“She is your best bet and all this time you have been browbeating her,” said the division bench of justices RS Sodhi and PK Bhasin, while hearing the police’s appeal against acquittal of the main accused Manu Sharma in the Jessica Lall murder case.

Ramani, one of the prime witnesses who had positively identified Manu Sharma, was turned into an accused by the Special Investigating Team for destruction of evidence.

According to Ramani’s testimony, when she saw Jessica fall and Manu Sharma rushing out she asked him for his gun and ran after him.

On approaching the gate, she told her husband George Mailhot that this man had shot Jessica and asked him to catch Manu.  These are positive statements and not a washout, said the bench.
