CBI tutored CFSL expert, says Santosh's counsel

NEW DELHI: The counsel for Santosh Kumar Singh, accused in the Priyadarshani Mattoo rape-cum-murder case, on Tuesday alleged before the Delhi High Court that Dr Lalji Singh had prepared the DNA test report at the instance of CBI and said that his testimony could not be taken into consideration.

Justifying trial court's rejection of Dr Singh's testimony with regard to the DNA test of the accused, Santosh's counsel R K Naseem told a bench headed by Justice R S Sodhi that the actual test was done by Dr Singh's junior Dr G B Rao.

"The trial judge was not convinced with the procedure adopted for the test by Dr Singh and rejected his testimony as Dr Singh was not present physically at the time of test," Naseem submitted before the court.

The counsel alleged that Dr Singh had not followed the principles which are internationally accepted before instructing his junior to conduct the test.

"In order to establish the presence of sperm heads in the blood sample the accused experts should have conducted the microscopic examination at the time of DNA test, but it was not done," he claimed.

The counsel said "the trial judge was not convinced after Dr Singh failed to answer a query put by him in this regard during his testimony,".
