NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Tuesday stayed the arrest of Bina Ramani's husband George Mailhot till Wednesday.

Mailhot, a Canadian national and also a key witness in the Jessica Lall murder case, has sought anticipatory bail fearing arrest in the cheating and forgery case registered against his wife.

He moved the anticipatory bail plea before Additional Sessions Judge Sukhvinder Kaur, who asked Delhi Police not to arrest him and reply to the application on Wednesday.

His request comes in the wake of Delhi Police's submission during the hearing in the Ramani's bail plea that he could also be impleaded as an accused in the cheating and forgery case.

Ramani was released on bail in the case on September 15.

Perusing Mailhot's application, the court asked the Delhi Police what material they had against him.

Ramani was arrested in Goa on September 6 after a non-bailable warrant issued two days earlier. According to the FIR lodged on March 6 this year, Ramani obtained the license to run a restaurant misrepresenting that she was the owner of the restaurant named 'Qutub Colonade' on the basis of forged documents and served liquor without having any valid licence.

She allegedly submitted a forged rent note, receipts, a No-Objection certificate (NOC) and a ration card.
