MUMBAI:  Three men arrested on Wednesday on charges of impersonating policemen have turned out to be mere entertainers — donned in khaki.

The trio — Karannat Ghisanath Vyas, 26, Ramesh Viramnath Sutar, 47 and Bhadarnath Rameshnath Rathod, 22 — told the police that they used to dress as deities in the past to earn alms from the public during the ganesha festival.

In his statement to the police, Vyas said they hailed from the Devas district in Madhya Pradesh but had settled in Bhiwandi for the past eight years.

“People call us Bahuroopiya as we wear dresses of Ram-Laxman, Krishna, Shiva, Hanuman during festival days to entertain the public and earn some money,” he said.
