ISTANBUL: An explosion ripped through Turkey's southern resort of Antalya on Monday, killing at least three people and wounding 20 others in a blast that ignited a blaze and shattered glass across the Mediterranean town's busiest street.

The blast, which occurred a day after dozens were injured in a series of explosions in another Turkish seaside town and its main city Istanbul, struck opposite a market near a municipal building, local police spokesman Akif Aktug said.

It was detonated between two mopeds parked in front of the building, Aktug was quoted by Anatolia news agency as saying. He said the cause of the explosion was not known.

A local government official put the toll at three dead and 20 injured, and said no foreign tourists were receiving treatment in hospital.

"None of the wounded is in critical danger, and no case has required hospitalisation," he said.

Israel's foreign ministry in Jerusalem said four Israelis were lightly injured in the blast. One French tourist at the scene told AFP people were being treated on the spot, some of them bleeding heavily and with wounds to the face, adding that emergency services had set up a security cordon around the site.

She said immediately after the blast police grabbed a man of about 18 or 20 who was trying to flee. "They handcuffed him and pushed him, screaming, into a police car," she said.

The explosion occurred around 3:40 pm (1340 GMT) in a cafe on the town's main avenue. The cafe took the brunt of the explosion, its metal structure twisted out of shape and all its windows shattered, the tourist added.
