NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday partially stayed an earlier order of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court directing the CBI to arrest all those public functionaries named in the Srinagar sex scandal case in which some politicians and government officials have already been chargesheeted.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal said that till further orders the investigating officer will conduct the custodial interrogation of only such person who he thinks fit in consultation/instruction with the CBI Director.

"We direct that till next date of hearing the investigating officer will conduct custodial interrogation of such persons he may think fit and on consultation/instruction with the CBI Director," the Bench said.

Issuing notice to the Lawyers Association of Srinagar on whose petition the High Court had passed its order, the bench posted the matter for further hearing on August 28 directing that the case diaries and other records produced before the High Court be kept ready for the perusal of the apex court.

The High Court had directed the CBI to arrest all those public functionaries who had been named by the kingpin in the sex scandal case diary
