IPS officer Arahna suspended from service

NEW DELHI: Senior IPS officer Francis J Aranha has been suspended on charges of violating his service code of conduct by taking up a job with an international organisation without informing the government.

Aranha, a 1984 batch Maharashtra cadre officer, was detained recently at the Indira Gandhi International airport while trying to leave the country, informed sources said here.

Sleuths of the central security agency had been monitoring Aranha's movements ever since he applied for the voluntary retirement scheme upon his arrival from Washington where he had served as a counsellor at the Indian Embassy.

The sleuths found a work permit of the International Monetory Fund stamped on his passport which was in clear violation of his service code of conduct, they said.

Aranha, who held the rank of Inspector General of Police, was questioned in detail in this connection and has been suspended since, they said.

He has not received any fresh posting after arriving from the US, been barred from travelling abroad and his services were kept at the disposal of the Union Home Ministry.
