NEW DELHI: A Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is likely to be set up to work out a holistic definition of what constitutes an office of profit, an issue on which MPs and MLAs can be disqualified as members.
During the passage of the controversial Office-of-Profit Bill, Law Minister H R Bhardwaj had assured constitution of a Parliamentary committee on the issue.
The bill is awaiting the assent of President A P J Abdul Kalam. The President had returned the bill to Parliament for reconsideration but it was passed without any changes.
