Tata Steel to expand retail business

Tata Steel, which has entered into organised retailing by starting a pilot project `Steeljunction' in the city, is working on a business plan to develop this line of activity to other cities as well.

KOLKATA: Tata Steel, which has entered into organised retailing by starting a pilot project `Steeljunction' in the city, is working on a business plan to develop this line of activity to other cities as well.

The company, depending upon the success of the pilot project, is keen to expand the retailing business to other cities as well, Tata Steel Chief (Retail Initiatives) Sumit Ray said.

About 'Steeljunction', which retails steel-made household appliances and cutlery, Ray said that it was doing extremely well, registering 350 to 400 footfalls per day.

In the six months of its operation, the outlet has clocked a sales of Rs four crore, Ray said, adding that the average billing was increasing each day.

Ray said that the company would take a view on the retail business after one year of operations of the pilot project.

The company also plans to introduce customer loyalty programmes in the form discounts and redemption points.
