JAMMU: Nearly 60 militants trained in Pakistan have sneaked into border districts of Poonch and Rajouri recently, a senior Jammu and Kashmir police officer said on Sunday.

"Infiltration is going on.... It has increased. As per rough estimates around 60 militants have infiltrated into Poonch and Rajouri recently," Inspector General of Police, Jammu Range, S P Vaid said.

He said police assisted by army and paramilitary forces are determined to scuttle their plans to escalate violence here.

Answering questions, he said 40 militants were killed during past six months by police and security forces in Doda district of Jammu region alone.

Sixteen militants were nabbed while 28 gave themselves up, he said adding these include nine youth who were rescued as they were being herded to Pakistan occupied Kashmir for arms training.

He said 46 AK rifles and 138 kgs of RDX were recovered from the arrested and killed militants and their hideouts in Doda.

To a question about Kulhand massacre when 19 innocent people were brutally killed by militants on May one, the IGP said LeT militants were responsible for the heinous crime. They have been identified and include two foreigners.

He said a militant of the outfit Khursheed Ahmad has been arrested in this connection and chargesheeted in the court.

Since the remaining militants are hardcore ultras, meeting with them will take place during encounters, he remarked.
