Woman jumps to death with infant

MUMBAI: An unidentified woman and her daughter jumped to their deaths from a 24-storey building in Kandivali on Thursday evening. The woman appeared to be in her thirties and the child one-year-old, said the police.

“We were playing football when we heard a thud. We saw this woman lying on the ground with her daughter. I was so frightened that I ran home,” said Naman Dubey, 15, who was playing football with other children from Crimson Towers when the incident occurred.

Another resident Shweta Jha said, “As soon as I came to know of the incident, I ran downstairs. I saw this fair lady with her daughter lying in blood. She was wearing a saree but her blouse was unbuttoned. I informed the police, who sent the bodies to the Bhagwati Hospital.” The watchman said he had never seen the woman.

“People living in the building say she is not a resident. We are trying to find out how she entered the premises. We do not have any information on who she is and where she jumped from. An investigation is on,” said Bhimrao Madavi, assistant commissioner of police, Dindoshi.
