NASHIK: With Nashik developing as a wine hub, efforts are being made to train professionals in the wine business. With this objective in mind, the Gargi Agriculture Research and Training Institute (GARTI), a college that offers courses in wine technology, was opened this week in Nashik.

Sensing the need for trained professionals in the wine business, the Bachchav brothers have started GARTI.

The college offers a diploma in fruit processing and wine technology and a post-graduate diploma in fermentation, distillery, and wine technology. Both the courses are affiliated to the Directorate of Technical Education.

Bachchav brothers were planning to start a winery but realised what they lacked was trained manpower to work in the various departments of wine making. They decided to start an institute that will groom wine technologists.

“We will train students in growing grapes, harvesting, marketing, costing, etc. The opportunities are immense as the wine business is growing,” says  Maitrai Desai, wine technologist and incharge of the institute.
